Advisory Council Spotlight: Susan Thornton
We are proud to spotlight Susan Thornton, a dedicated local government worker and community volunteer. Susan, an NC native, works as Human Resources Manager for the City of Goldsboro, focusing on training, benefits, compensation, and most importantly: serving people.
“I’m deeply honored to be spotlighted. I want to make my kids proud, and, whether it’s an organization, an employee, or someone on the street, I want to lend a helping hand.”
Susan serves as Sponsorship Committee Chair of the Public Sector HR Association (PSHRA) and is looking forward to serving as president-elect for the 2026-2027 term. She also serves as president of Leadership Wayne, a program that offers leadership training and opportunity for participants to better their communities.
“Service to me is doing whatever I can possibly do to help and be there for that person. Sometimes people just need that listening ear. Whatever I can do to make someone’s day easier.”
As an Advisory Council member, Susan recognizes the importance of human connection and banking with people you can trust. “I joined Civic through an Advisory Council member. I thought it was great to hear about the credit union from a volunteer … Knowing that Civic is willing to be in the community and provide financial learning opportunities so people can be prepared for their futures is so important.”
“I can’t say enough about what Civic and my connections at the credit union have done for me. It is rewarding. It makes a difference when you feel like you’re making a difference.”
