Civic Credit Union Wraps Up Local Connects Tour Across North Carolina, Strengthening Ties with Local Government Employees

Watch the Local Connects recap video.

RALEIGH, N.C. – Civic Credit Union (Civic) has concluded its series of Local Connects meetings across North Carolina, reinforcing its commitment to transparency, accessibility and member-driven service for the state's local government employees, retirees and their families.

Following its transition to full independence this summer, Civic launched Local Connects as a statewide listening tour to meet members face-to-face, understand their priorities and gather feedback on how Civic can best support today’s local government workforce. As part of this effort, Civic hosted a session in New Bern, a community that reflects the heart of North Carolina’s coastal and eastern public-service workforce.

These meetings provided local government employees an opportunity to speak directly with Civic leadership about their financial needs, digital banking expectations, and ideas for strengthening member access. The Local Connects video highlights how these meetings created space for real conversations that were honest, personal and focused on how Civic can continue to evolve to meet members’ needs.

“Local Connects were designed to give our members a direct line to us, and these conversations have been invaluable,” said Ashley Ruffin, Chief Impact Officer at Civic Credit Union. “Hearing what our members need in their own words helps us build a stronger, more transparent credit union that reflects the real experiences of local government employees across North Carolina.”

Participants shared thoughts on recent digital upgrades, customer support improvements, and future opportunities for Civic to expand access across North Carolina. Many noted how meaningful it was to speak directly with Civic leadership and to see their feedback taken seriously.

“I’m glad I came to this event because it has really turned my mindset around,” said Civic member Tamika Harper Purcell. “It has gotten me excited again about being a member.”

Civic’s Local Connects initiative aligns with themes echoed since independence: modern digital banking, reinvestment into members, and community-rooted service. The meetings also helped members learn more about the expanded digital tools available to them, including 24/7 mobile banking, 3,700 in-state deposit locations and 93,000 nationwide access points.
